And I’m Just Getting Warmed Up

Every Wednesday night I go to a feminist thought discussion class. When I leave, my brain is a swarming mess of thoughts that I want to vocalize, but since it's a swarming mess, vocalizing in a structured way is not easy. This is an attempt. I got a bit annoyed last Friday night while out with friends when we briefly touched on the topic of the Vagina Monologues.
For me, the Vagina Monologues is very empowering. Each monologue voices all of the negative or positive feelings the majority of women have about their bodies, their self-esteem, and their political viewpoints. Men should be open-minded enough to listen and try to understand where these monologues are coming from.
For a guy to say that he didn't like the VM because he felt it was all about bashing men or to say that it is all about vaginas, he obviously wasn't listening.
Guys, women are pissed off, not all the time, but a lot of the time. Part of the reason they are pissed off is because they are oppressed by men. Not all men, but the majority of men.
Here's another thing I want to address.
Every person in this patriarchal society should be a feminist. Let me rephrase that. We live in a patriarchal society, because there are powerful men in this country (George Bush) that do not believe women should have the same rights as men.
That is absurd!
Do you think that women and men should be paid the same for the same job? Do you think that women should have total control over the choices they make, including, but not limited to the freedom to choose to have abortions or take birth control pills? Do you think that there should be more women holding political office, because political offices are supposed to represent all citizens and right now they pretty much represent half or less of the population?
If so, then you are a feminist.
Stop thinking about that word negatively.
Maybe it's time for a revolution.
