Sidetracked

Back to the drawing board

While everyone was gaining their Freshman 15, I started losing weight. After being the fat kid my entire life, the fat kid on swim team, mind you, I was ready to nip my weight problems in the bud. I joined Weight Watchers and the pounds slowly melted away. A year later, still dieting, I started smoking and the pounds came off even faster. I chalked this up to the gods finally giving me what a deserved: a speedy metabolism. I reached my goal weight about a year ago, and it may seem vain, but it felt so good to be skinny.

It turns out the weight loss had nothing to do with the heavens shining down on me, and mostly to do with nicotine. I gave up one of my favorite past times not too long ago and my body is paying me back with fat rolls and love handles. I’ve been doing pilates and drinking lots of water, I even did a half-assed colon cleanse. I climbed on the scale this morning, only to see that I’m one pound lighter, when before after such an effort, I’d be back to where I wanted to be.

I thought might fat kid days were long gone.

You’ll get back to normal — it just takes a little time for your body to adjust. In the meantime, think about how much healthier and happier your body is. And think about how your hair and clothes won’t stink. You should be really proud of yourself.
