Sidetracked

Furkid

I’ve been obsessing about adopting an animal for years, but there was always a reason why I shouldn’t. Lately, the reason was I just didn’t have the money for one, which depressed me, because I see homeless people with animals all the time. After finally getting a decent pay check, I adopted a little kitten. His name is Charlie, and he’s six weeks old. He enjoys acting, mountain climbing and meditating. Six weeks might sound pretty young to dabble in such sophisticated hobbies, but this guy is a genius.

kitty! All I know is it’s so cute when we see them out on a leash — everybody says you have to start training them on it when they are kittens.

Also, apparently wet food is the way to go — Mike and I get lectured every time we are at a pet event for work about feeding our cat dry food.

Why is wet food the way to go? His foster mom started feeding him dry food last week, so that’s what we’re feeding him. I may pick up some wet food to mix in with the dry though.

That’s hilarious about the leash! I’ll try it out when his neck is big enough for a collar.

adorable!!! but yes, i too am curious as to why wet food would be the way to go. i was told by my vet that the crunchies are best for keeping plaque off of their teeth and to mix wet food and crunchies when you give them soft food…
one more thing, i started taking my kitten in the car really young to all sorts of places so that he wouldn’t freak out and associate the car with the vet and it’s been really helpful.
have fun, i want another kitty!

Does he sit on Dave’s shoulder while Dave works? That would be cool if he did.

Oh, here’s the info I was given at the last event. We still give Lula dry food though because when we try to give her wet food she looks at it in disgust and then poops on the floor.

I did a little research about wet vs. dry the other day. Turns out dry food can cause all kinds of diseases and illnesses. I’ve had cats for most of my life and we always gave them dry food. But I’m willing to try out the wet food thing with Charlie. He seems to like the wet stuff way more than the dry.

By the way, one of the first things you should do with any new pet is get them drunk and see what happens.

We keep one bowl pretty full of dry food and give him a bit of canned food twice a day and that’s worked out great. One thing: We get him good food. Nothing from the regular supermarket but nothing stupidly expensive – not Mexican Gourmet fusion but not Taco Bell either – just some good home cooked tex-mex level of food.

I know that my roommate’s gf was really good about spending time with the cats every day from home. Every she’d walk in and greet the cat and spend a good 15 minutes with him. She’d talk to him, etc. and we’ve got the coolest fKing cat. …everyone says so. Also, I’m big a believer in giving your cat more than just Food as a reason to come back if they go out. If they’re used to getting love everyday they can be let out to wander the ‘hood and always be expected to come back. Ferdinand comes from where ever he is outside when I whistle for him. It’s pretty great.
